Abstract del progetto

The GREAT project, funded by the Digital Europe program, aims to establish the Green Deal Data Space Foundation and its Community of Practice which builds on both the European Green Deal and the EU’s Strategy for Data. The project will deliver a roadmap for implementing and deploying the Green Deal Data Space, an infrastructure that will allow data providers and initiatives to openly share their data to tackle climate change in a multidisciplinary manner.

CNR-IIA is responsible of Work Package 3: Technical Blueprint. This WP is in charge of defining the technical blueprint of the of the GDDS reference architecture explaining how existing (and planned) data ecosystems (at national, regional, and local level) can be connected to provide an interoperable, secure data sharing environment which allows seamless discovery and use of available data (access, visualization, processing, etc.). The GDDS will be designed as part of a broader digital ecosystem as envisioned by the Digital Europe Program, including other sectoral data spaces, cloud-to-edge infrastructures & services, and data processing platforms (e.g., Destination Earth).
The specific objectives of this WP are:
• Gather requirements, constraints, challenges and opportunities for implementing a GDDS from the GDDS Community.
• Develop a GDDS reference architecture that will meet the identified requirements.
• Align the GDDS reference with the European Data Spaces Technical Framework and other relevant initiatives of DEP (e.g., Destination Earth, Digital Product Passport, etc.) and other Work Programmes (e.g.,
Horizon Europe).
WP 3 addresses Objective 2 (Enable cross-sectoral technical interoperability between existing and planned data ecosystems through a common reference architecture to establish the GDDS as a system of systems).
Project overall objective: To establish the GDDS foundations and Community of Practice with: (1) the Minimum Viable GDDS for the first implementation phase of the data federation; (2) the reference blueprint of the technical architecture; (3) the governance scheme and (4) implementation roadmap, building on the strong involvement and support of a (5) cross-sectoral pan-European community of practice of data and service providers, users and intermediaries.

Objective 1: Establish a GDDS community of practice, including major sectoral EGD initiatives and data ecosystems, that is committed to join efforts under a common governance framework to offer an interoperable, trusted digital ecosystem for data exploitation.

Objective 2: Enable cross-sectoral technical interoperability between existing and planned data ecosystems through a common reference architecture to establish the GDDS as a system of systems.

Objective 3: Establish a Minimum Viable data space for the EGD identifying the minimum set of data sets required to support key use cases required to enable achievement of EGD objectives

Objective 4: Empower selected high value uses cases and their value chains by defining an inclusive multi- stakeholder governance scheme

Objective 5: Boost the adoption of the GDDS data infrastructure by setting an implementation roadmap that takes into account the priorities of the stakeholder in terms of availability of key resources, architecture and governance.

Objective 6. Co-create and validate recommendations and reference models with stakeholders from the GDDS Community of practice and receive their support for adoption.

Objective 7. Align project outcomes with other data space initiatives and the Data Space Support Centre (DSSC)
